Paul K Joyce

Paul grew up in Nottingham, UK, and following a science degree, began a career in music. Discovered by Soft Cell’s Dave Ball, his band SENSE released several records and toured with Depeche Mode and Kim Wilde. Paul then moved on to composing for television and film, working on many successful shows, including The Worst Witch, Noddy, Fimbles, and Knight School. In 2000, he received an Ivor Novello award for his theme to the animated series, Bob the Builder. Beyond television, Paul co-produced innovative theatre works such as Frankenstein – The Creation and large-scale musical collaborations, including The Snow Queen, performed by the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra and Juliet Stevenson. Developing his skills further in orchestration and arranging, Paul has since collaborated with actor Michael Sheen on Celestial, Steve Howe on the orchestral solo record Time, and three albums for prog-rock legends YES. He remains active in international projects, particularly in Prague, where he conducts and records, and is a regular contributor to the annual Composers Summit. Recent works include The Worst Witch Overture and The Edge Of Space. Paul’s most recent collaboration is with Swedish ‘funeral pop’ singer Mäki.
